The Blog

The Blog at Johnhouston's, also known as Below the Fold...
This is Version 2.0 and a work in progress.

Here you'll find, in plain-spoken language; opinions (mine), flat-out facts and solutions as I see them.  All in an easy to read format.

A Spade is a Spade here and no sugar is allowed nor used.

The Live Earth Global Concert

I caught part of news story on my electric television about the Live Earth Global Concerts and the first thing that came to mind as I saw banks of lights and a myriad of electrically powered instruments... Just how "Green" are these things?

In their defense, they being the promoters, the news report did say that "SOME" of the electricity was or would be generated by bio-diesel powered generators. However, being the cynical ass I am, one or two generators hardly qualifies as being "green"... Passing out energy efficient light bulbs to offset their blunders hardly qualifies as a countermeasure for their lack of "greenness".

Then, there is the "stars", and I use that term very loosely, who will most certainly arrive in private jets followed by stretch limos. None of whom I'd pay my hard earned money to see: No matter how they arrived. For some reason I just cannot picture in my mind, Madonna actually walking... Anywhere!

Now if these folks really want to be Green: They should arrive in canoes with acoustic instruments in tow or afoot with that acoustic guitar strapped to their back. There should be no stage unless it's a "natural" stage akin to a rock outcropping or a few logs stacked atop each other. Then if the festivities carry on past sundown, ban the Bics and light up the emergency candles. On second thought, a moonlight concert with only the twinkling stars in the sky. Ahhhh, Metallica by moonlight!

Then comes the media coverage Al Gore and his "followers" are clambering for. You can bet your ass THEIR generators aren't running on bio-diesel and Al and Company has welcomed them with open arms!

What I WOULD pay money to see? Row upon Row of human powered generators furnishing electricity to a Few lights on that rock outcrop stage mentioned above; supporting a few really good unplugged musical artists who arrived on bicycles or on foot.

As I post this from my electrically powered HP in my room lighted with only one of those energy efficient "curly-que" light bulbs I can only say... If you're gonna talk the talk. You'd best be able to walk the walk.
