The Blog at Johnhouston's, also known as Below the Fold...
This is Version 2.0 and a work in progress.
Here you'll find, in plain-spoken language; opinions (mine), flat-out facts and solutions as I see them. All in an easy to read format.
A Spade is a Spade here and no sugar is allowed nor used.
If he's convicted of this hideous B.S., Vick should be neutered with a very dull knife and no sedation.
Those of you who know me, know I am a big time dog lover. Animals all for that matter and cruelty passed off as "sport" is utterly barbaric, for the lack of a better word.
Hell, I've called the local Post Master, unleashing a tirade because a postal carrier pulled his pepper spray simply because I and my dog were sitting quietly on my front porch, waiting for mail and HE (the carrier) was startled to see us. Narry a bark was uttered: Only a waggin' tale. This fiasco with Michael Vick is enough to literally make anyone puke and take serious doubt in their so called "sports heroes". I flat don't have words to describe...
Hopefully the powers that be of the NFL will deal with virulent Vick harshly and any endorsements he may have: Should dissappear.
This is just another reason why I've not been a football fan for many years.
Remember this headline? "2 Border Patrol agents face 20 years in prison"
A major national news story from the Summer of 2006 and the whole affair stirred incredible emotion from all who took the time to read about the goings on. Generally an emotion of betrayal of the Border Patrol agents from those who are bent toward very stiff immagration law enforcement.
The news media, both print and broadcast as well as internet sources all had wildly varying versions of what actually(?) happened in the Ignacio Ramos / Jose Compean fiasco. Frankly I found myself falling into their "Trusted News Source" reporting trap in believing the two agents were being railroaded: Simply because this information was not made public or the media refused to report it or report it accurately.
The two Mexican smugglers were made out to be "heroes" in some instances and the Border Patrol Agents as "Bureaucratic Victims" in other instances. Neither of which is the truth!! The news media in general hyped the hell out of this case, skewing the actual facts to suit their headlines.
Now don't misunderstand: I'm NOT a bleedin' heart liberal by any means nor do I believe every piece of rhetoric that comes from the governmental bureaucracies as The Gospel According to G.W. but, I DO believe we as citizens of the United States need, MUST HAVE some strong, enforceable immigration laws: Enforceable is the keyword. And, I am NOT opposed to using reasonable force to enforce those laws.
What I am getting at in this piece is the total lack of "Accurate Reporting" in this case!
I stumbled upon the U.S. Department of Justice's web site where, buried a few directories below root were two PDF documents that actually contained the truth in the matter as statements of U. S. Attorney, Johnny Sutton. These documents/statements were not made public until 2007.
Statement dated 4-25-2007 :: Statement dated 1-17-2007 USDOJ Site :: Compean-Ramos Press Releases and trial transcripts
At any rate, the U.S. Attorney's office didn't do themselves any favors by not publicizing this information more or earlier.
I caught part of news story on my electric television about the Live Earth Global Concerts and the first thing that came to mind as I saw banks of lights and a myriad of electrically powered instruments... Just how "Green" are these things?
In their defense, they being the promoters, the news report did say that "SOME" of the electricity was or would be generated by bio-diesel powered generators. However, being the cynical ass I am, one or two generators hardly qualifies as being "green"... Passing out energy efficient light bulbs to offset their blunders hardly qualifies as a countermeasure for their lack of "greenness".
Then, there is the "stars", and I use that term very loosely, who will most certainly arrive in private jets followed by stretch limos. None of whom I'd pay my hard earned money to see: No matter how they arrived. For some reason I just cannot picture in my mind, Madonna actually walking... Anywhere!
Now if these folks really want to be Green: They should arrive in canoes with acoustic instruments in tow or afoot with that acoustic guitar strapped to their back. There should be no stage unless it's a "natural" stage akin to a rock outcropping or a few logs stacked atop each other. Then if the festivities carry on past sundown, ban the Bics and light up the emergency candles. On second thought, a moonlight concert with only the twinkling stars in the sky. Ahhhh, Metallica by moonlight!
Then comes the media coverage Al Gore and his "followers" are clambering for. You can bet your ass THEIR generators aren't running on bio-diesel and Al and Company has welcomed them with open arms!
What I WOULD pay money to see? Row upon Row of human powered generators furnishing electricity to a Few lights on that rock outcrop stage mentioned above; supporting a few really good unplugged musical artists who arrived on bicycles or on foot.
As I post this from my electrically powered HP in my room lighted with only one of those energy efficient "curly-que" light bulbs I can only say... If you're gonna talk the talk. You'd best be able to walk the walk.
